Creating Guardrails

Create guardrails that govern how cloud resources are created and changed

Resourcely allows you to create new guardrails in order to fit your requirements. From the Guardrail section, press the Create a guardrail button to proceed

In the next screen, you can select a template to configure a guardrail as needed.

Next, you must configure the guardrail functionality (in this example) it includes:

  • Guardrail Rules (image allowlist and denylist)

  • Overrides approval organization

After configuring the guardrail functionality, press the Continue button to proceed

You can either select from existing image types or provide a glob search. Notice the 12 matches

Next, in order to test the guardrail, click on "Developer Experience" and click on "Generate example" and then click "evaluate" . Notice the PASSING check on the top right side.

Now we must provide the metadata for a guardrail in order to effectively describe the change. Guardrail metadata includes:

  • Name

  • Description

  • Category

After the metadata has been filled, press the "Create Guardrail" button to proceed.

In this section, we can verify the changes and then press the Yes, create Guardrail button to publish your guardrail and make it immediately available to your end users.

Be careful! Active guardrails take effect immediately across all repositories that Resourcely monitors.

See Releasing guardrails for ways to control the scope of new guardrails.
